Peru 3 – Pisac y Saqsayhuaman
In the last Perú post we had visited central Cuzco, for our third day in Peru we decided to go a little bit towards the north, to a town called Písac where we were going to visit the ruins of a very interesting agricultural terraces which were clue to Inka farming. We didn't actually go to the ruins but instead stayed at the farmer's market happening in the town itself (a really good post about Písac Ruins can be found here). We bought our souvenirs and had an absolutely wonderful ear of corn with the kernel's the size I've never seen before. We managed to catch a very nice procession to the church and traditional dancing by men.
After spending all our money here jaja we went for some lunch to a little place called Blue Llama. The food was really good and we were practically by ourselves there (bathrooms were nice and clean as well). Make sure to take a good look at all the places Blue has been and all the interesting people he's met!
From here we walked to the bus stop and caught a bus to our next destination...Awana Kancha Llama Petting Zoo!!! I absolutely love llamas and this was superb. There is fresh cut grass to feed the llamas and we took tons of pictures. They even had baby llamas - so cute!!
I don't even know how much time we spent here, I do know I had to delete some pictures from my camera to fit in more llama pictures :O
Having quelled my llama fever (not quite), we took a mini bus to our next stop - Saqsayhuaman. We had originally planned to stop at Tambomachay and Puca Pucara but we decided not to since we were already tired and had a long walk at Sacsayhuaman to look forward to.
The mini bus dropped us off at a local park where everyone just goes to enjoy the afternoon with their family. We stopped for a few minutes before walking to the actual entrance about a mile down the road. This was actually the back entrance and there was this amazing rock formation that everyone uses as slides! It was so much fun (and so high up). It totally took us back to when we were kids.
We continued along the path and finally made it to the central plaza. It is such an amazing sight! How ever did they build this place. The rocks are huge and placed so perfectly. It's just out of this world! And yes, you guessed it, there are llamas running amok! Though these aren't quite as nice as the ones in Cuzco center (I almost got kicked by one, she missed me by this much).
We were so tired from all the walking that we just sat there taking it all in. We even had a nap which was just so comforting and invigorating. It was truly a magical place.
After consulting a map, we decided that our hotel wasn't too far off so we decided to walk there - it was about a mile and took us no more than 30 minutes. Afterwards we even had energy for a burger and fries - and don't forget the pisco!
